Refošk Boškarin 2022: strength, depth, and Istrian character

Refošk Boškarin 2022 comes from sunny locations near Domačija Butul. The hand-picked grapes have developed a lot of color, extract, and character in this mature vintage. Fermentation took place spontaneously at natural temperatures, with nearly a month of maceration.

In the cellar

The wine aged in barrique barrels on fine lees until summer 2023, without added sulfur. The flysch soil with clay and sandstone gives it minerality, tension, and a recognizable Istrian signature.

In the glass

Ruby red color with violet hues is accompanied by aromas of blueberries, cherries, dried plums, and blackberries, alongside white pepper, chocolate, and delicate vanilla. The taste is rich, structured, and spicy, with noble tannins and a long finish.

With food

It pairs excellently with grilled meats, beef stews, game, darker sauces, aged cheeses, and other dishes with pronounced flavors.

Serving

Serve at 14–16 °C. Before serving, a short aeration is recommended to fully open the dark fruit, spices, and structure of the wine.
