My Friend's Husband, semi-sweet white from Bodegas Vallobera

Variety: White Tempranillo, Malvasía, and Sauvignon Blanc.

Production:

Fermentation is done separately for each variety. White Tempranillo and Malvasía are taken to the end of fermentation to achieve volume in the mouth. The fermentation of Sauvignon is stopped to preserve the reducing sugars and the freshness provided by its acidity. A subsequent blending results in a wine balanced in terms of alcohol, sugar, and acidity.

Tasting:

• Pale yellow color.
• Aromas of stone fruit, lychee, and tropical notes.
• On the palate, the wine's volume entertains us with its fresh balance and long finish with a pleasant and balanced bounce.

Pairing: Recommended with sushi, cheeses, and foie.

From the beginning, our great bet was the vineyard in the surroundings of Laguardia, in La Rioja Alavesa. Our own plantations, which were over 50 years old, would gradually be joined by new lands chosen with a forward-looking vision, later optimized for the type of grape they would host. The foundation of our wines lies in the suitability of each plot. Its properties dictate the subsequent production of our range of wines.

We have always been concerned with maintaining the balance between the inherited legacy and the new technological times. Forgetting everything inherited would be a major mistake, and not applying modern advancements and techniques would be as well. In a world like that of wine, where so many actors participate and the script is so imaginative, we must pay maximum attention to the past and anticipate the future. Only then can success be achieved… or at least attempted.

Location of the vineyards

The vineyards are almost entirely located in the subzone of Rioja Alavesa, in the shadow of the Sierra de Cantabria, which protects them from the harshness of northern storms. They are situated in the municipalities of Leza, Elvillar, Páganos, Navaridas, Elciego, and especially Laguardia, with an average vineyard age of about 30 years. Their altitude varies from 500 to 650 meters above sea level. The highest plantations seek quality at the expense of quantity, with much more differentiated characteristics that allow us to craft more personal wines.
