Qualified Designation of Origin: Rioja

Variety: 80% Tempranillo and 20% Graciano from the organic vineyard Alto de Mindiarte, hand-picked in small boxes and selected on a sorting table.

Farming: Organic agriculture

Production: Bordeaux-style production, with destemming and crushing of the grapes.

Region and vineyards:
Vineyards located in San Vicente de la Sonsierra (Rioja Alta) known for the extraordinary quality of its soils and vineyards. They have an average age of 45 years. The care of these vines is 100% organic with highly integrated agriculture. Clay-limestone soils that are very poor and stony, which causes the roots of the vines to dig deep in search of water and substrates, resulting in small grape productions but of great quality.

Aging:
Malolactic fermentation in new French and American oak barrels, followed by aging in the same barrels on its lees for 18 months in new American and French oak barrels, and a minimum subsequent bottle aging of 12 months.

Tasting:

• Appearance: Wine of intense cherry red color with a ruby rim.
• Smell: Very aromatic nose of black and red fruits - blackberry and raspberry - with notes of wild herbs - thyme - harmonized with the toasted and spiced aromas from aging in new barrels.
• Taste: On the palate, it is powerful and smooth with good acid balance, marked ripe tannins, and a very unique aromatic finish that expresses the terroir from which it comes.

Temperature: Serve at 14-16 ºC

Pairing: Perfect to accompany red and white meats, roasts, game, cheeses, and pâtés.

For over a century, generations of the Mendoza family have made wine for family and friends in a small century-old cave located within the walls of the Castle of San Vicente de la Sonsierra.

Organic agriculture

We are one of the pioneering wineries in Organic Agriculture in La Rioja. In the year 2000, we planted our first organic vineyard in Alto de Mindiarte. A set of isolated vineyard plots surrounded by a natural wooded environment full of fauna and flora.

The vineyards

The winery has 35 hectares of its own vineyard spread across different plots in the municipal territory of San Vicente de la Sonsierra.
