Malvasia Forgotten Barrel 2016 – a wine that has found its time

Malvasia Forgotten Barrel 2016 is one of the most special wines from the Butul Homestead. The grapes come from Manžan, from a vineyard above the Gulf of Koper, where Mediterranean freshness meets Istrian soil and the bora wind. The harvest took place on September 22, 2016, at full grape ripeness.

The story of the forgotten barrel

The original plan was for a shorter maceration, but the barrel remained longer in the cellar. The extended contact and development of flor yeast gave the wine a distinct oxidative character, reminiscent of more mature styles of wine with a nutty, almost Marsala note.

In the glass

The aroma and taste intertwine almonds, ripe pear, dried apple, dried fruit, and a slight saltiness. The wine is complex, meditative, and best enjoyed slightly warmer, not too chilled.

At the table

It pairs excellently with aged cheeses, dishes with nuts, poultry, pork, mushrooms, rich vegetable dishes, and slow dinners where the wine has time to tell its story.
