Honey is a valuable food of plant origin, prepared by bees by collecting nectar or honeydew and honeydew exudates from plants, to which they add secretions from their own glands, thickening it all and storing it in covered cells of the honeycomb.
It contains approximately 40% fruit sugar (fructose), 34% grape sugar (glucose), 1-4% cane sugar, 17.7% water, and 5.3% other substances such as vitamins (especially vitamin C), nitrogen compounds, minerals, attractants..., which give different types of flower and forest honeys specific properties.
Honey is food and medicine, used without culinary preparation, and has an extraordinary taste that is liked by almost everyone. It can be enjoyed on its own or in combination with various foods in the form of a drink or spread.
It is also distinguished as an addition in baking.
We recommend purchasing quality honey that originates from the environment in which you live. Domestic Slovenian honey is best obtained directly from the beekeeper. Due to the diversity of the landscape, Slovenia is a true treasure trove of different types of honey, among which the most well-known are flower, chestnut, acacia, forest, spruce, and linden.

Every natural honey crystallizes after a certain storage time, a phenomenon known as honey crystallization, which is a sign of quality for some honey varieties. In this way, honey is naturally preserved for a longer period, and this phenomenon is also the origin of the old Slovenian name for honey, which is strd.
