Preparation of Homemade Tomato Sauce
- To prepare this recipe, you can either peel the tomatoes or prepare it directly with the tomatoes with skin. If you leave the skin on, wash the tomatoes well.
- Cut them into quarters in a container that allows you to keep the juice of the tomato itself as we will use it too.
- In a saucepan, add the virgin olive oil and the tomato and its juice. Stir well and cook over high heat until it starts to boil.
- Once it starts to boil, lower the heat. Add the salt, sugar, and bay leaf.
- Let it cook for about 10 minutes and stir. To prevent splattering, remove from heat, wait a few seconds, remove the lid allowing it to drain inside the pot, and stir.
- Let it simmer for about two hours. During this time, stir occasionally to prevent sticking.
- Once it is to your liking, turn off the heat and pass the sauce through a food mill. This way, you will remove the skin and seeds from the tomato.
