Horned Pepper

Annual plant with an upright stem, ranging in height from 50 cm to over 2 meters. It branches at each node, with alternate, petiolate leaves that are dark green. The fruit is a green berry, hollow, elongated in shape, and not very thick. It is ideal for frying, as its thin walls cook quickly and absorb little oil; in some southern regions, it is known as "garden birds" or fair peppers.

They are consumed green, highly valued for their characteristic flavor. Besides being eaten fresh, cooked, or as a condiment or "spice" in typical dishes from various countries, there is a wide range of industrial products that use them in human food: frozen, dehydrated, pickled, canned, pastes, and sauces.

Pepper has a great number of properties that are very beneficial for the entire body, as they contain many vitamins and minerals that provide energy in the form of carbohydrates and much more.

They are rich in vitamin C, vitamin A, and also contain vitamin E, vitamins B6, B3, B2, B1, and folic acid. Among the minerals found in the different varieties of peppers, potassium is the most prominent, followed by calcium, phosphorus, and magnesium. They have a good amount of carbohydrates and a high concentration of carotenoids (750mg /100 g).

Pepper has a strong antioxidant power, is low in calories (19 kcal/100 g), and is also very rich in fiber. This last point makes the consumption of this vegetable provide a feeling of fullness, making it very useful in weight control diets. Since it is low in sodium, it is suitable for low-salt diets.
