GOLDCOCK Peated whisky is a continuation of the long story of the GOLDCOCK brand, which began in 1969 in the former brewery in Těšetic near Olomouc. At that time, our predecessors attempted to create a whisky that would be recognizable as different and original from the first taste. Thus, the story of original Czech whisky made from Czech barley, aged in oak barrels made from Czech wood was born. Our goal is to continue this tradition and preserve what makes our whisky unique. GoldCock 10 years old is the first GOLDCOCK distilled in modern Arnold Holstein stills, while all other parts of the production remained original and in many ways historical. We believe that this combination of the new with the old will be the best way to preserve the values of the GOLDCOCK whisky brand.
In 2016, we decided to try an uncharted path and produce the first heavily peated Czech whisky. At the Bruntál Malting Plant, we burned three times more peat than usual during the drying of the malt, reaching a level that even in Scotland defines heavily peated whiskies, around 30 PPM. We distilled as slowly as possible, and the resulting distillate was then aged in repurposed barrels from the Bařina Cooperage. This whisky is different not only due to its distinctly recognizable stronger peatiness but primarily because the larger amount of peat gives this distillate a completely new dimension.
Another dimension is added to the Peated whisky through experimentation. The current finish was influenced by aging in red wine barrels.
