ACTION AND APPLICATION: Used for soothing the irritation of dry cough and for irritated mucous membranes in the mouth and throat in respiratory problems, but not as an expectorant. Less common use is for mild inflammation of the stomach and intestines, as well as skin, when applied in the form of a thickened mass (plaster) on the skin. Not recommended for pregnant and breastfeeding women, or for children under 12 years of age.
PREPARATION: Pour 1-3 g (1-1.5 teaspoons) of finely chopped root with about 150 ml (1 cup) of cold water. Let it macerate in a covered opaque container for 30 minutes to 1 hour, stirring frequently, and then strain. Drink the tea up to three times a day, one cup for a duration of 1-2 weeks, and for longer use, consult a doctor. The maximum recommended daily amount is 6 g. 1 teaspoon = about 3 g. The effective mucilage of white mallow root is sensitive to high temperatures and light, which should be taken into account during preparation and storage.
