Fig Leaf Syrup – Domačija Butul
The fig is considered one of the oldest cultivated plants of the Mediterranean. Its fruits are sweet and rich, but a particularly special story also lies in the fig leaves – powerful, hairy, aromatic, and surprisingly useful.
At Domačija Butul, we do not take fig leaves lightly. We handpick them thoughtfully – only those that grow far enough from the fruits to still provide natural shade for the figs. These leaves are the basis for a product that has genuinely surprised us.
Fig leaves contain vitamins A, B1, and B2 as well as minerals such as potassium, calcium, manganese, iron, sodium, and phosphorus. Folk tradition attributes numerous beneficial properties to them, especially in the form of tea or infusions. Here, they have taken on another, very special role.
Part of the leaves is fermented (for culinary experiments, such as fig “sarmice”), part is dried for tea, but the largest and best part ends up in a large pot on the stove. After slow cooking, patient straining, and precise dosing, we create fig leaf syrup – warm, herbal, slightly coconut-vanilla, soft, and rounded.
In our opinion:
👉 one of the best syrups we have ever made.
