About the BEER
Fruit and beer have been combined in beverages for thousands of years! Whether we are talking about Natufians, Belgians, Italians, or global hipsters — they all wanted one thing — to enrich the taste of beer with fruit. Traditionally, fruit is added to beer during fermentation. Then we know various regrettable fixes to beer with fruit syrups and lemon wedges. We know radlers. And finally, we know the replacement of hop notes with tropical fruit using fruit purees.
Pelicon's Mango Milkshake IPA is a light beer with an orange color like mango juice, brewed from basic ingredients: spring water, barley malt (gluten), oat milk (oats, water), mango, passion fruit, hops, and yeast. The taste follows the aroma and the name of the beer — a fresh mango flavor that finishes with a milkshake taste. The aftertaste is pleasantly bitter and fruity, as is appropriate for the IPA style.
In brewing this beer, we used a substantial amount of mango and passion fruit puree — at least 10% — which gives the beer a distinct color, texture, and rich mango aroma, multi-salts, and tropical fruit. We wanted to keep the recipe plant-based and vegan-friendly, so we used oat milk instead of lactose, which we prepared ourselves. Therefore, the beer is not sweet and follows the house style of dry and not-so-sweet brews.
The first edition of Mango Milkshake IPA was brewed in the BOIL OVER series, read more about this series below. The term "Boil over" describes the moment when the wort boils over during brewing. When it boils excessively. At that moment, the wild foam needs to be cooled down. This is done in two ways — you lower the temperature or spray it with cold water. Just like in life.
All the accumulated energy that built up in us during the pandemic, we wanted to channel into something positive. So this is a project that was created in response to being closed and at home for months. It includes educational content about beer and brewing, interaction with drinkers, and a bit of training for brewers' muscles. On social media, we published six categories of beer. Every week, you, the drinkers, voted for your favorite variant within the category. The voted beer style was also actually brewed. Currently, there are 6 different beers in the Boil Over series.
