Slovenian Istria has always been known for its Mediterranean climate, which allows us to gather fresh garden and wild plants throughout the year.
Snow and frost rarely touch us; it is true that they reduce our yield, but what we produce is therefore much more valuable. The Mediterranean way of eating and living, which UNESCO has protected as intangible cultural heritage, is one of the best in the world. Statistically, our part of Slovenia has the lowest rate of cardiovascular diseases. Olive oil plays the most important role here, as do the crops, herbs, and wild herbs. Since around the year 2000, we have been striving to pass on our knowledge and experience at our homestead. We are a didactic farm and prepare thematic workshops both at home
and abroad. This year's series of workshops will focus on several different topics.
Food fermentation dates back to times when there were no possibilities for storage in refrigerators or freezers. Even in ancient times, hunters used this method to preserve meat; just recently, I watched a documentary about how in Russia, around the year 1800, they prepared fermented cucumbers and other vegetables that were available to them. Everything was stored in large wooden barrels.
Fermented food is full of probiotics, which have a beneficial effect on our intestines, digestion, and immune system. Winter is ahead of us, so this is the time when we must ensure that our bodies are prepared for unfavorable external influences. In the workshop, we will prepare several dishes (5-6) that you will take home and enjoy in about 10 days. We will also try some of our already fermented delicacies that are on our daily menu. The workshops are conducted in Slovenian, English, or Italian. The workshop will take place if at least 5 people are registered. If no specific location is mentioned,
the workshops will be held at Domačija Butul, Manžan 10d, 6000 Koper.
At the workshops, you will receive:
-all ingredients
-packaging
-snacks
-herbal drinks
-recipes and knowledge for home creation
We reserve a spot in the workshop upon receiving a deposit. The number of spots is limited, so hurry. After registering at info@butul.net, you will receive
a pro forma invoice and payment details. Please provide accurate information, address, email address, and phone number.
