Known in Galicia as caramuxo and caramecha, the whelk is a little-known mollusk, but when we take it to our mouth, it feels like we are bringing a piece of the sea to our palate. The whelks are a different yet tasty appetizer, and they will serve as a starter to entertain and delight our diners.
The whelk is elongated due to the shell it resides in. Its texture is smooth at first and pale in color, while as it is extracted from its shell, it becomes softer and has a darker color.
To eat the whelk, we recommend using a pin to pierce the meat and remove it from its shell.
It is estimated that 1 kilogram of whelks is sufficient for 3-4 people
