The Galician pinto is a sedentary fish, so it usually does not move more than 1000 meters a day.
Are Galician pinto and maragota the same?
There is a widespread belief that Galician pinto and maragota are the same fish, with color being the main distinguishing feature. However, this is not the case; the Galician pinto is hermaphroditic when it is born, meaning all are females (maragotas), but as they grow, some of these maragotas change their gender to male, that is, to Galician pinto. Although they are the same species, they have slight differences, as the size when changing sex is 36 centimeters for the maragota and 47 for the pinto. Additionally, the Galician Pinto can reach a larger size than the maragota.
